Almost a heart attack. That was what happened to the President when he informed everyone how many entries came in in a couple of days prior to closing date. His Secretary told him that they hadn’t even reached 1,000 entries close to entries closing day, but in those last few days the number climbed to 2,094, and that is 37 entries more than last year.

Luxembourg - Spring 2014

Written by Administrator

There was a slight drop in the total number of entries, but only slightly from 5,487 last year to 5,330 this time round. But still this is a fantastic number for a country so small as Luxemburg.

It is relatively easy to become Champion of Luxemburg, but is that really so? For certain less popular breeds maybe, where only a handful of dogs are entered. But winning in a breed like Chihuahua, Golden Retriever, Rhodesian Ridgeback or Cavalier King Charles is not that easy, as in those breeds competition is strong. And that has not only to do with the number of entries in the breed but also because in Luxemburg they know how to assemble an exquisite selection of judges.

I was very honoured and privileged to be invited to judge Norwich Terriers at the combined Finnish Norfolk & Norwich Club Open Show in March this year.
I set off early on the Saturday morning from Manchester and arrived in Helsinki around 3.30pm Finnish time. I made my way to the hotel, 10 minutes away from the airport, and awaited my co judge, Dot Britten who was to judge Norfolks at the same show.

International Show, Reykjavik

Written by Administrator

DOG judges are eager travellers, and Iceland is considered one of the most desirable European destinations for judging appointments. Thanks to the young age of the Icelandic KC and a small population, there are only four dog shows a year organised in this mystic and distant country. So to get a judging appointment there is quite an honour for a judge.

This show was  an International Show which took place in Reykjavik on 22nd and 23rd of February, 2014, and there were just six judges on duty: Kenneth Edh, Kurt Nielsen and Benny from Sweden, Arne Foss from Norway, Francesco Cochetti from Italy and myself from Slovenia.

Gent - two day show success

Written by Administrator

As long as I can remember the show in Gent has always been a one day show, unique in its concept, interesting for the visitor who can see all the breeds on one day, but not that interesting for everyone.

There is without a doubt more advantages than disadvantages to spread a show over two days. Gent was also a two yearly show. I wonder if that will change in the near future. It would be nice, as Gent is popular and has enough potential to do it. This was Gent’s 45th show and probably the start of a new era. Unfortunately, the Honorary President, Mr Pierre Verborgh, could not enjoy the results of the changes he agreed upon as he died less than three weeks before the show.

Martinidogshow

Written by Administrator

The Martinidogshow in Groningen in The Netherlands is traditionally held the weekend before Crufts, and is therefore a show that lots of exhibitors from Scandinavia, Germany and Eastern Europe go to on their way to Birmingham.

The show has a very interesting judge’s list with many international specialist judges and a lot of foreign exhibitors; from England Mrs Marilyn Prior, Mr Ray Strudwick and Mr Hugh Jones were invited to judge Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Shetland Sheepdogs and Bearded Collies.

This year was the 54th International Show organised by the Northern Canine Association, Noorder Kynologen Club, one of the oldest clubs in the Netherlands.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Cape Town to judge the Western Cape Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club’s 19th Championship Show on March 1st, 2014.

There were 60 dogs entered with only 5 absent. I understand this was the best entry they have had for a number of years.

Continuing Our Dogs look at dog shows world wide here is the BIS at the Shunde All Breed Championship Dog Show in China.

Poodle, CN Ch. DQ of Kang Yi Shi Shang Kennel (FCI) , pet name DQ and is just less than 13 months of age. He already has his China title, and is a multi - BIG and five times BIS.

Organiser Franki Leung told OUR DOGS: ‘Considering his age, this dog did a wonderful job! His owner/ breeder/ handler is Ms Kang Yi, a first generation groomer in China.

Graz International Dog Show

Written by Administrator
A wonderful opening of the show season in Austria with one of the best organised shows in central Europe in Graz. Held at the same time of Crufts weekend, it was not easy to make the show as usual, but they have managed to keep the number of entries - over 2,000 dogs were entered.

Double dog show in Ljubljana

Written by Administrator

THIS year there are to be 13 International Dog Shows in Slovenia, the first two were on the 18th & 19th of January in Ljubljana. The Sunday show was the Crufts qualification show for Slovenia this year.

Slovenia is a good country in which to hold dog shows. It is a small country, with less than three million residents, and it is easy to get to from neighbouring countries such as Italy, Croatia, Austria and Hungary.
