While last year the Brussels Dog Show was surfing on high waves, this year they were forced to replace the regular date that is normally mid-December, to the summer, because the Heizel Palaces were not available.

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Cavalier and King Charles Spaniel Breeders Club, Prague for inviting me to judge, King Charles, a breed I am so very close to and fond of.

The show took place in Chateau Sirin, near Prague, set in a lovely surrounding venue with picturesque views.

Danish Terrier Club Show

Written by Administrator
The Danish Terrier Cub held two back to back shows on the weekend of 12/13 October. On the first day the show was held in conjunction with a sponsored show for 20 clubs – some for breeds and others for groups. The second day’s show was held independently in Hobro.

THE IRO (International Rettungshunde Organisation) World Championships for Rescue Dogs were held from the 25th-29th September, 2013, in Nijmegen in the Netherlands.

Finland Spaniel Speciality Show

What a great show this was, and what an honour and privilege it was to be invited to judge this Spaniel Speciality show in Hyvinkaa of the 5th of October. First class organisation, wonderful hospitality and the sportsmanlike manner the exhibitors took the judges decisions at this prestigious show. Next years World Show will be well worth a visit.

My thanks to my two ring stewards, Viveca Lindqvist and Marianne Dolmatoff who kept me on the straight and narrow and kept up with writing my critiques superbly.

Icelandic KC International Show

Written by Administrator

The dog culture in Iceland is fairly new. The Icelandic Kennel Club (HRFI) was founded in 1969 and got a full membership to the FCI just last year. HRFI hosts three international shows each year, one national and occasional club shows.

At the all breed shows there are around 700 to 800 dogs entered of over, or around, 80 different breeds. That might not seem so much but the country is very closed off. No dogs from abroad are entered for shows because all dogs coming to Iceland must go through a four week expensive quarantine.

Two junior dogs on the BIS podium

I will never understand why the autumn show still remains less popular than the spring show, but I think that a lot of Kennel Clubs envy the Luxembourg Kennel Club for their two successful shows every year.

This show had only 36 dogs less than last year but  compared to the spring show, there is still a big gap of 45% and that is a big difference.

Finnish Akita Speciality

Written by Administrator
The Finnish Akita Speciality Club Show was held on the 1st September in Hollola, about an hours drive from Helsinki.
The entry was a superb 110 dogs, believed to be a record for an Akita Breed show in an FCI country. Dogs attended from Finland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia and also Russia.
The weather was very changeable with mostly rain and drizzle for this outdoor show.

Geneva gem for Valentina

Written by Administrator

The jewel in the crown of the European Dog Show in Geneva proved to be the Scottish Terrier, Filisite Brash Koh-I-Noor, owned and bred by Valentina Popova from Russia.

Topping the lot out of 8,000 dogs in Switzerland, the Scottie had been sent through from the breed by well known Swedish judge Dan Ericcson, the Group by former AKC Chairman Ron Menaker and then taking the ultimate award from Switzerland’s famous Hans Muller, now retired from duties at the FCI but an appropriate judge for the show in his home country. Unusually a Karelian Bear Dog owned by Dawne Deeley from Canada was Reserve BIS to big cheers from the crowd.

When one thinks of Switzerland, colourful images of mountain landscapes, indulgent chocolate and luxury timepieces quickly come to mind. Following this year's FCI European Dog Show in Geneva it is certain that this lovely country has also secured a place in the minds of dog lovers everywhere as a home to world-class canines and dedicated purebred enthusiasts.
