The statement reads: ‘Madrid, October 13th, 2020 ‘The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), IFEMA and the Real Sociedad Canina de España (RSCE), organisers of the FCI World Dog Show 2020, which was going to be held in Feria de Madrid from December 17th to December 20th, further to several postponements of its original dates in April and then July, have decided to postpone this worldwide canine event to 23 - 26 June 2022, due to the situation created by Covid-19. ‘IFEMA had taken a whole set of measures and protocols in order to ensure the participation in the Dog Show under fully guaranteed safety conditions.
However, the evolution of the pandemic and the various sanitary conditions at international level make it advisable to postpone the event, in order to answer the high expectations and the anticipation a worldwide event of such importance had generated for companies, exhibitors and enthusiasts from all over the world. ‘The FCI and the RSCE would like to express their gratitude to the generosity, the solidarity and the cooperation of Brazil - through their national canine organisation, CBCK - which being conscious of the seriousness and the peculiarity of the current situation, as well as of RSCE’s efforts to guarantee the celebration of the FCI World Dog Show, has agreed to hold two World Dog Shows in 2022: the FCI World Dog Show in Spain and the FCI World Dog Show in Brazil (where the coveted and exclusive 2020 and 2022 “FCI World Winner” titles will be respectively awarded).
This way, 2022 will be a paradigmatic year, a model of the values and ideals of friendship, solidarity, cooperation and respect on which the FCI is based. ‘The RSCE and the CBKC are grateful for the predisposition and the support of the FCI General Committee, especially of the FCI’s President, to a good outcome of the proper negotiations. ‘In the next few days, the RSCE will inform further about the final dates and about all the changes related to this new situation. ‘WELCOME TO THE FCI WORLD DOG SHOWS 2020 AND 2022! ‘WELCOME TO MADRID! WELCOME TO SAO PAULO ‘(signed) Dr Tamás Jakkel FCI President Julián Hernández RSCE President Asier Labarga WDS Ifema Director.’ The announcement was not unexpected as Spain and Madrid in particular has plunged back into a further Covid crisis which made staging a show in 2020 a virtual impossibility.
FCI President, Tamas Jakkel speaking to OUR DOGS said, “It was a great communication and solidarity within the involved FCI members showing the correct cooperation being unified instead of separated by different local interest. I was happy to be an active part of it with many personal communication and meeting on the way to decide. OUR DOGS also spoke to Jose Doval who has been a regular spokesman for the WORLD DOG SHOW and the RSCE on their social media pages. Over the last year there have been countless messages and questions which have increased through the Covid crisis. Jose told OUR DOGS: “2020 has undoubtedly been a negative year full of problems, personal tragedies and great challenges to overcome.
From the RSCE we have always worked to maintain the dream of being able to celebrate the World Dog Show in Madrid. Now, thanks to the generosity of Brazil and the collaboration of the FCI Committee, we have come to a solution that will undoubtedly benefit all dog lovers in the world and gives us a horizon of tranquillity to work. The road is being very difficult, but in the end it will have been worth it. Welcome to Madrid! Welcome to Sao Paulo!” The statement brings an end to much speculation and OUR DOGS looks forward to working with both events as their International Media Partner and wishes both shows every success OUR DOGS will bring exhibitor reaction in future issues
