The first Hungarian shows after the pandemic were on Papa, two International shows, on 20th and 21st of June. Pápa is a small city in the middle of Western Hungary, with about 30,000 residents. Both days saw about 1000 dogs, the judging palette was international, with Slovakian, Romanian, Serbian and Polish judges. There was no catalogue, online catalogue only. About 99% of the people were not afraidof COVID19, I saw just few face masks at the show, under the great show tent it was not possible to keep a social distance.
I saw more facemasks in the restaurant in the evening than at the show. The organiser of the show, the local KC’s president, Emanuel Pop, is a successful breeder and exhibitor (Afghans, Gordon Setters), so he has seen many International shows in Europe, and he organised with his team a very nice and well organised show.
Everything was on time, a big show tent for the exhibitors), the parking area was close and they used the best parking payment system: drive in, and pay, when you leave (this is not usual in Hungary). There were nice trophies, great rosettes, folk art, ceramic bowls and plates, the dog food sponsor was the Josera (German origin company), givingout a lot of dog food bags as prizes.
Of the entries, 28% were from foreign countries (about 10 countries), the farthest from Italy, I think. Both days were cloudy, cold, windy, but fortunately only a little rain. There were was a very strong Junior Handler competition too, Saturday judged by Attila Schlosser, Sunday by Ekaterina Voloshina, and the Supreme JH winner by Valentina Zupan, not breed judges but well experienced professional dog handlers.
