SAR DOGS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The WCH was organized in the fields of search for ruins, area search, tracking, in the vicinity of Vipolze in Slovenia (very close to the Italian border, in the county of Gorizia). Unfortunately, the search for ruins was very far away, near Ljubljana, about 120 kilometers from the competition center.

The judges of the competition were: head judge Bruno Piccinelli (I), Matti Hautala (SF) tracking, Andreas Quint (D) obedience-dexterity, Monika Rusing (EST) rubble search, Ann-Marie Melin (S) area search.

In this WCH (unlike the IRO), you could also enter for all phases, this is the Universal category. these dogs perform all three tasks (ruin, track, area). 3 Universal, 43 area search, 14 tracking and 30 ruin search entries were received for the VB. Teams from 20 countries came to the competition. The most popular dog breed was the Malinois, but there were also German Shepherds, Border Collies, and Retrievers. Since this was an FCI competition, the best in each breed also won the CACIT title.

The VB lasted for 4 days, we were lucky with the weather, it was nice spring weather, only sometimes with a few showers. Both the ruin and the area were difficult, demanding a high degree of independence from the dogs, the ruin was completed by only 6, the area by a little more, 16 dog-guide pairs, the tracking was completed by 9, only 1 of the Universals succeeded.

After the World Championship, was an election general meeting, and elected the new President the FCI’ Search and Rescue Dogs Committee: Goktan Eker, from Turkie.
