In Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen’s GCH Soletrader Maggie May, bred by Gavin & Sara Robertson, owned by Donna Moore, won Best of Breed and Group 3. The Standard Poodle ring had most of the attention on Monday as the UK’s Top Utility and third top dog all breeds in 2011, Ch Del Zarzoso Salvame from Afterglow took Best Opposite in Breed, supported ringside by his UK owners, Michael Gadsby and Jason Lynn. In 2012, Westminster’s Best in Show was won by the Pekingese, GCH Palacegarden Malachy, bred by Jean Smith in the UK. At Westminster this year, the UK dominated the Pekingese ring again but the breed was topped by Am Ch Yakee Easily Persuaded, owned by Sandra Middlebrooks and David Fitzpatrick, bred by Bert Easdon.

For those of us who were not able to get to New York this year, Westminster Kennel Club created online streaming on all breeds this time. Hundreds of thousands of people Worldwide have logged in online to see their favourite breeds being put through their paces. Here is what some people in the UK have said about the coverage online:

Susan Crummey ‘The live streaming is fantastic! I've seen more sat at home than I did when I was there!’

Lisa Cowley ‘The live streaming is fab’

Carol Lees ‘Brilliant, love the live streaming, only thing was it dropped off when my dog was being judged! Every other one was fine!’

David Knights ‘Love the live streaming, plus have a friend who is ringside and we're commenting on dogs in the ring via Facebook as it is happening.

Lynne Fraser ‘loving it,’

Sue Sanderson ‘Excellent.... loved the Pomeranians and Miniature Pinschers’

In this weeks issue we have featured the Group winners from Monday night’s finals plus some candid shots from the show.

Full results will follow with a report from Stuart Band and photographs by Lisa Croft-Elliott in forthcoming issues of OUR DOGS, in print and online.
