Border Collie Club of Denmark

Featured Written by

I was honoured and delighted to be invited to judge the Border Collie Club of Denmark’s Champ Show at Vallensbaek where the hospitality couldn’t have been better. Grateful thanks to Secretary Felicia Olsen and her committee for all their help and kindness throughout my stay. Thanks also to my lovely ring steward Julie.

In the evening after judging I was taken by Felicia and Ina Jorgensen to the Spisestedet Mosen, a lovely lakeside restaurant where the views were quite breathtaking, a wonderful way to end the day and thaw out from all the wind and rain.

Josie Large (Wizaland) had judged the day before. Josie had selected the same dog for BIS as I did on the Sunday, so it was good to know we were on the same track. She braved the elements to accompany me to the Sunday show.

Josie will be pleased to know that ‘Milo’ is now an International Champion as Ch Bordermania Can’t Pretend subsequently won the CACIB in Poland which qualifies him for Crufts.

I had been judging BIS in Birmingham on the Saturday and couldn’t get an evening flight so had to get up at the crack of dawn to fly to Copenhagen where I was picked up from the airport by the chairman, Erik Ussing.

The quality of the main winners was most pleasing where presentation throughout was of a high standard and temperament was excellent.

My Dog CAC winner and ultimate BIS was Felicia Olsen’s Ch Bordermania Can’t Pretend (Ch Borderline Country Tornado ex Locheil Be True), bred by Judit Novak, a three and a half yr old bl/w of excellent proportions, so sound on the move and full of vitality, a pleasure to judge and presented to perfection.

The bitch CAC, RBIS & BOS was awarded to the Open class winner, Royal Copenhagen (AUCH DEVDHCH Trucharm Read Allaboutit ex Ch Borderbay Marilyn), a 4 yr old bl/w owned and bred by Pia Varkil, a most feminine specimen of very good outline, conformation and movement, and again presented beautifully.

Reserve DCAC went to Kerrybrent Ringside Rumours, bred in New Zealand by T D Baker-Smillie and owned by Mette Nielsen and Ines Arrambride. RBCAC winner was Muscha’s Catch A Diamond who was second in open, bred by Lisbeth Christensen and owned by Margit and Mille Jakobsen.

Best Junior was Lisbeth Christensen’s Legend Of Braveheart Crystal Angel, bred by Britta Ludsteck, a real quality bitch who has it all before her.

All the veterans were champions, the top award going to Ulrike & Gabriela Hansen’s DKRLCH Stensedals Tasja, rising 11 years and in remarkably good condition.

There were some really promising baby puppies on parade where my choice for best went to Mette Nielsen’s Kerrybrent Preservn The Line, bred in New Zealand by T D Baker-Smillie, a lovely little soul who exudes femininity and charm.
