Tuusula Summer Show

Featured Written by

Tuusula Summer Show was held on the 29th & 30th June 2013, in Tuusula, Finland.

This was a very very good event. Tuusula is a small town some 32km south east of Helsinki. The show was well organised by secretary Riikka Karinen and her committee, this was a National CAC show with some 2,600 dogs entered over the two days.

Peggy was invited to judge the Rough Collies & Lancashire Heelers on Day One, on Day Two, the Dalmatians. I was invited to judge the Shetland Sheepdogs on Day One and the American Akitas, the Samoyeds and the Rottweilers on Day Two.

Day one started with some rain, but after the first 45 minutes it stopped, then we had very good showing weather the rest of the day.

Some 64 Rough Collies were on show most graded excellent, but not all, and not all CC quality, all the class winners were very pleasing and at CC quality, for                                                  Best of Breed I selected a blue merle bitch, she was Siniketun Merie Moon, a multi champion in perfect coat and correct colour, she moved and handled well, head was very good, I was very pleased to see her placed third in the strong Group later in the day. For Best Opposite Sex, I was pleased to find a UK bred tricolour male, he was Ladnar Tell Upon A Star, a very good sound tricolour coming from the open class.

Some 19 Lancashire Heelers were on show and I was very pleased with all of them, all graded excellent and most graded CC quality, the standard of this breed in Finland and the rest of Scandinavia is quite wonderful. For Best of Breed I selected the winner of the open class, she was Marmalades Jubilee Diamond, a quality bitch from all angles, head and body shape perfect, lovely tan marking with thumb prints on toes, temperament and movement quite classic, again I was pleased to see her take the 4th spot in the strong Group. For Best Opposite Sex I selected the winner of the open class, Jazz Milestone, a very good sound Heeler. I note some UK breeding from the Traqdean kennel.

Shetland Sheepdogs had 60 entered at the show, most awarded excellent not all CC quality, at this show the dogs appeared to be to a higher standard than the bitches, however, my Best of Breed was the bitch, a tricolour who came from the veteran class she was a Swedish Champion, Sunsweet Biggest Dream, later she was placed 2nd in the strong veteran group. In my eyes a classic bitch with a glorious head, outline of body shape and coat condition, lovely temperament and movement could not be faulted I loved her. Best Opposite Sex was a sable and white, Lundercocks Happy Talk, a good sound male from the same kennel as the bitch. I note some UK breeding on the back ground from the Edglonian kennel, all the exhibitors were very sporting. I really enjoy judging this great breed.

Day two started in glorious sunshine and stayed with the show all day. I judged the Dalmatians with an entry of 42. This breed is very strong in quality in Finland and having judged it many times it was good to see friends from past years showing again, all exhibiters were very sporting with my placing in each class for Best of Breed I selected a black spotted bitch from the Intermediate class, she was Beloe Zoltota Desert Rose, a bitch full of quality moving well with great front extension and rear drive, decorations, good temperament, lovely, she was very nice to handle. I was very pleased to award her the CAC. For Best Opposite Sex I selected again a black spotted, he was from the Junior class, Araidan Naurava Kulkuri, I liked him a lot, very good body shape, movement was good, he was well decorated. This breed was lovely to judge here today with most on show graded excellent, thank you.

My day two started with the American Akitas, some 17 on show not all graded excellent, but many pleased me a lot for Best of Breed I selected the dog he was a Multi Champion Micabi Kens Bodygaurd a quite wonderful upstanding dog with a great head and body shape good bone structure his expression was outstanding, I note some UK breeding from the Melodor kennel well done. For the Best Bitch I had again a lovely champion Owelan Chippawa, again UK breeding on the background from Ruthdales & Melodor kennels, this bitch pleased in every quarter of the standard she was lovely.

Samoyeds had some 35 at the show, this breed is outstanding in quality in Finland. All my exhibits were graded excellent and practically all in the later classes at CC quality. For the Best of Breed I selected the bitch from the open class, she was Fun Sam Halattara, she was in sparkling form, coat condition and presentation was perfect, her body shape, reach of neck, head and movement all to a very high breed standard. This win was a CAC and her title of Finish Champion. I loved her. My Best Opposite Sex came from the strong Champion class he was Jaahelmen Price Albin, a good headed male with eyes and ears well placed, great outline of body shape, movement and temperament, could not be faulted. I loved this breed here today, thank you one and all.

Rottweilers had some eight at the show all pleased and very strong; all temperaments were good for the Best of Breed I chose the bitch, Bumban Jewil, for Best Opposite Sex a very strong male Heizelwood Farro.

Peter Bailey - Judge

Other UK judges at the show were Brenda Banbury, Dianna Spavin, and Rob Sansom. The hospitality at this great show was to the highest of standards while watching the groups on both days the judges had refreshment of strawberries and sparking wine set out on tables, flights there and back with Fin Air were very good the Hotel was quite first class, we must thank the show committee for the invitations.
