DOG judges are eager travellers, and Iceland is considered one of the most desirable European destinations for judging appointments. Thanks to the young age of the Icelandic KC and a small population, there are only four dog shows a year organised in this mystic and distant country. The dog culture in Iceland is fairly new. The Icelandic Kennel Club (HRFI) was founded in 1969 and got a full membership to the FCI just last year. HRFI hosts three international shows each year, one national and occasional club shows.  At the all breed shows there are around 700 to 800 dogs entered of over, or around, 80 different breeds. At the week-end 2nd and 3rd of June The Icelandic Kennel Club held their summer show with an judges panel including Albert Wight – England, Cathy and Sean Delmar –Ireland, Liliane de Ridder – Belgium and Kitty Sjong – Denmark in extremely nice weather.


For many people, visiting Iceland is a dream come true, and that applied to me too. Last summer that dream became reality. It’s fascinating nature speaks to everyone’s imagination.


An email from Margret Thomasdottra inviting me to come and judge in the land of volcano’s arrived in late April. I understood the occasion was that of the semi-annual National Dog Show
