Esposizione Internazionale Del Canavese (CACIB) THE Esposizione Internazionale Del Canavese (CACIB) held their All-Breed Championship in the beautiful grounds of the Castello E Parco di Masino where among the panel of judges, I had the welcome company of Jean and Paul Lawless, and Colette Muldoon, from Ireland.

The layout was magnificent. Sponsors Royal Canin had provided tenting in the rings, extra ones later set up to protect the dogs being judged as the temperature reached the mid-nineties. Lovely to top up the suntan, not so good for the dogs. Little evidence, however, of any suffering. Josephine, my secretary at the Border Collie Club champ show the previous day, was again my steward help me, such a great asset.

I had a good entry of Rough Collies, both in number and quality, and found my CACIB & BOB winner in the sable and white five year old Ch Feel My Soul Du Clos De Sea Wind (Texas Blond Du Chemin Des Randonnees ex Uvra Gold Du Clos De Sea Wind), beautifully prepared and developed, so positive on the move and later short-listed.

The bitch CACIB winner was Ch Samhaven Temptation Ladnar, a beautifully coloured blue merle bred by Alison Granger by Ch Ladnar Kingfisher, who I've awarded a CC to, out of Branock Rum Truffle at Samhaven, who I've awarded a RCC to, so good to discover that.

He is owned by Maria Garabelli and handled by Ilaria Cantini. Reserve dog CACIB went to Universal Blue Dream Dell'Antica Eporedia, another beautiful blue as was One Extraordinary Blu Di Cambiano, bred by Maria Garabelli and winner of Junior. Res Bitch CACIB was Wild Sea Blu Di Cambiano, yet another pretty blue and yes, another bred by Maria.

Reserve bitch CACIB went to Ch Keyline Happy End, sired by the English champion Chelborn Kiss 'N Tell, who I've also given a CC to. There were only two Smooth Collies, both sables, with a lot of catching up to do.

My principal winners in Shelties were both tricolours, CACIB & BOB going to Dressed By Dior Di Selvaspina, bred by Anna Albrigo and made up on the day. BOS was Fr Ch Habby Du Jardin d'Angelique, ably shown by her very young French girl handler.

In Pembroke Corgis, CACIB & BOB went to a delightful tricolour bitch Ch Astersland Some Like It Hot, who has an English-bred background. My final breed stint was Australian Shepherd Dogs, filled with quality and a pleasure to judge. CACIB & BOB went to a stunning blue merle dog, Ch A Midsummer Night Dream GJKennel's, not long past his second birthday, teeming with quality and charisma. Shown by his handler in a smart blue matching suit to the wonderful colour of the Aussie, beautiful shape and construction, excellent on the move. He later went on to win the Group under Jean Lawless.

The res CACIB went to Ch Quick Silver Rider Del Whymper Delle Grande Jorasses, bred and owned by Gabriella Lovati, blue merle. In bitches, CACIB & BOS went to Under A Paper Moon Del Whymper Delle G Jorasses, a black tri half-sister to the res dog CACIB winner, also bred by Gabriella Lovati. Res CACIB went to Moon Shine Blue Extravagant, a red merle while Best Junior, Moon Shine Blue Let's Get Ready, blue merle, ended up winning Junior Group before going Best Junior In Show.

My final engagement was to judge all ten Junior Groups, one selected from each only, then competing against each other where the lovely blue Aussie bitch, Moon Shine Blue Let's Get Ready went Best Junior In Show.

It was still boiling hot at the end of the show where a packed audience stayed to follow proceedings. Plenty of refreshments were made available, much needed, then back to the hotel for another splendid Italian meal. And wine. Plenty of it!
