Best in show went to the fabulous German Shepherd Carly Di Poggio Del Sole, Best in show went to the fabulous German Shepherd Carly Di Poggio Del Sole,

It was a real pleasure to visit Malta again, after many years. The hospitality was first class and l thank Frank Borg and his staff for making this a most memorable visit. The sightseeing after the show is something l won’t ever forget. You have a beautiful island, filled with lots of treasures. I had some beautiful dogs to go over and I was very impressed with many of them.

TERRIER GROUP: J.Galea’s Lakeland Terrier, Eng.Ch. Jordan Dallas. Really super Lakeland and looking so good. Nice size and overall balance. I liked head and expression with well placed ears. Never stopped showing. In perfect coat and presentation. Reserve Terrier Group: N.Scicluna’s WHWT, Rain Harbour Queen Lillibeth Of Windsor. Quite a nice Westie. Low to ground as they should be, good reach of neck, level topline and well carried tail. super coat texture.

TERRIER JUNIOR GROUP: J.Galea’s Welsh Terrier, Perrisblu Regret. Young looking Welsh and everything in its right place for the age. Very good coat and colour. Showed so well. (Res. BJIS).

TERRIER PUPPY GROUP: R.Cordina’s Sealyham Terrier, Didgeridoo’s Chicago Fizz. So nice to see such a nice looking Sealyham, still quite a young but should have a great future. Correct for size, low to ground, well ribbed. Good in head and expression. In very good coat and well presented, well done to his young handler as l know just how difficult this breed can be to present them. Well done. (Res. BPIS) Reserve Terrier Puppy Group: J.Attard’s Jack Russell Terrier, Rough Jack’s Bukari. A JRT with full of character as they should be. Ok for size but needs more length of leg for better balance. He showed very well and really moved so well.

WORKING GROUP. A,Grixti's GSD, Carly Di Poggio Del Sole. Won by a superb German Shepherd. He was so good to go over and was in fantastic body condition. He has a textbook head and expression. Good in neck and shoulders, correct topline, he has good ribs and a strong loin. On the move he really comes together, and l can only imagine outside in a large arena he would be even more impressive. I was afterwards that this was his first show in Malta. i think you will hear a  lot more about super dog. (BIS) Reserve Working Group was D.Grixti’s Siberian Husky, Ch. Ayuka’s Angel Of Distruction, a lovely Siberian Husky who l really admired, for his type, balance and lovely condition. His handler did a great job and moved at just the right pace. Well-balanced in hear, good expression, copybook front with good bone and nice feet. Firm in topline and really used super hindquarters.

WORKING JUNIOR GROUP. O.Manicaro's Border Collie, Manicaro Paddington Bear. A little on the big side for me but having said the balance was correct. Lovely neck and shoulders, good in topline, well ribbed and his young handler showed him top perfection. Reserve Working Junior Group: was C & K Cilia's Boxer Tobias De Yu Box.  Very nice male still needing to mature a bit more I felt, but l loved the head and expression, super mouth. front was good both standing and moving.

WORKING PUPPY GROUP. C & K Cilia's Boxer Cilemm Love At First Sight Izzy. Very feminine r/w with the most lovely head and expression, nice dark well pigmented eye. clean in neck and shoulder, firm in body. With a bit more time should do really well. Reserve Working Puppy Group: N. Ambrogio's Great Dane, Best Joy You Luna Dlya Mire Moih Grez, A very raw puppy on the day, ok for size and a lovely temperament. Good bone and nice feet, the topline is good. Really just needs a bit more time.

GUNDOG GROUP: J.Loughborough's Labrador, Sh.Ch. Neville Open Heart. I was really taken by this very impressive Labrador. He has the most lovely head an expression. I liked his overall balance and type. I see from the catalogue that his sire is from a famous UK kennel and l see that type very much in this dog. Correct coat and a nice thick tail.  Reserve Gundog Group: Best Gundog: D.Busuttil's Pointer Sh.Ch. Chesterhope Lady Lagertha. A very classy bitch who ran the winner all the way, and it was very close between them. Such a lovely bitch and another from a very famous kennel. Correct in head and expression, good reach of neck, correct in topline and that special bee sting tail to go with it. Another I’m sure that will change places with my winner many times.

GUNDOG JUNIOR GROUP: I.Spagnol’s German S.H Pointer Kelgame Sharp Dressed Man. Well put together youngster, maturing nicely. Nice type, good overall balance and moved with soundness. Reserve Best Gundog Junior: B.Borg’s Golden Retriever Olvingray Triquetra. Little heavier in type than l would prefer, having said that was nicely balanced, firm in topline and tail kept at the right height.

GUNDOG PUPPY GROUP: D.Busuttil's Pointer Berseydale Full House. A very promising puppy who l liked very much, still a baby in many aspects as you would expect at this age. But so nice to go over, lovely temperament and showed herself really well. Reserve Best Gundog Puppy: J.Galea’s Spanish Water Dog, Dingligem Lovable Lucy. Nice Spanish Water dog and looking so good. Shown in correct coat, l liked the head and expression. Super front with good bone and nice feet. Firm in topline. Well handled.

TOY GROUP. E.Bugeja’s Pom Sette Stelle Arrow. Lovely orange and a real ball on four legs, lovely outline, good in head and expression, to be critical ears could be a shade smaller. Showed so well both standing and on the move. Presented to perfection. Reserve Toy Group: E.Gauci's Pug. Bruno. Very nice fawn, ok for size, well made in body, nice head and expression. Correct topline, handled very well to get the very best out of him.

TOY JUNIOR GROUP. E.Gauci's Pug, Stella Seasolaris. Lucky owner to have two very nice Pugs of a super type, ok for size, good in neck and shoulder, straight in front with nice feet. Showed very well here but when it came to Best Junior In Show he seemed distracted! Reserve Toy Junior: C.Tabone’s Yorkshire Terrier. Safi Charms Golden Eva. Very nicely coated and well- presented Yorkshire Terrier, good in neck and shoulder good in topline, would have like more body and more sporing of rib. Moved very well and well handled.

TOY PUPPY GROUP. L.Delceppo’s Maltese, Ivy Of Leara White Star. Here I found a real star for the future. Very young and very immature but such a lovely Maltese. Beautiful head and expression, super pigment, well placed ears, so nice to go over and quite confident on the move. It was just her lack of maturity when it came to best puppy in show but im sure more will be heard of this one. Reserve Toy Puppy: S,Bonett’s Pomeranian Dan star Kom Stella Pena. Another very promising puppy, very confident both standing and moving. Lovely outline and in super coat.

HOUND GROUP. W.Chetcuti's Whippet Ch. Frontrunner's The Look. Really lovely and eye catching parti colour. Nice size, every part just fitted together such a lovely outline. So nice is head and expression, nice ear carriage. Super neck and shoulders, correct in topline. On the move just flowed around the ring. Full of quality and no doubt more will be heard of this bitch. (Res.BIS). Reserve Best Hound: K.Galea’s Saluki, Ch. Gabra CK Alexander Helios. This was a good group and this was another that took my eye. Again, full of quality, masculine without any coarseness. Ok for size, so nice to go over again really came to life on the move and moved out with such dignity. Close up to my winner and not an easy decision.

HOUND JUNIOR GROUP: W.Ellul Bonici’s Pharaoh Hound, Palelli Pina. Very nice to go over, typical in head and expression and used her ears all the time, just needs a bit more time as she was a little unsettled on the move.

HOUND PUPPY GROUP: I & A Borg’s Beagle, Portside Kennels Pip. I was really taken with this very nice bitch. A tri and shown in, lovely condition. Nice head and lovely soft expression so important in a beagle. Ok in topline and very sound on the move. (BPIS). Reserve Hound Puppy: E.Spagnol's Basenji, Princess Nora Chloe. A very promising bitch, full of quality, still very young and just needs to mature, but that's just a time thing and will come. But i thought her rather nice.

UTILITY GROUP. C & G Camilleri's French Bulldog, Ch SSSR Only The Lonely. very masculine brindle male. I liked his head proportions, well carried bat ears. nice in neck and shoulder, could have a little more roach in his topline. but well ribbed and quite sound. Reserve Best Utility: B.Borg’s Japanese Shiba Inu, Damyashi Bushi. Really good moving Shiba, very typical in outliner and also in head and expression. So well handled too. UTILITY JUNIOR GROUP: B.Borg’s Japanese Shiba Inu, Damyashi Bushi (Repeat). (BJIS).

UTILITY PUPPY GROUP: G.Gerada's Chow, Amila Bella. Very raw but very promising young bitch. Well- balanced in head, good mouth pigment, and she had nice small ears too. In full coat and was really nice presented Reserve Best Puppy Utility: M.D'Auria's German Spitz, Exploit On The Red Carpet Mittelpom. Well- balanced rather lacking coat as yet but that will come with time. Very showy and on the move was sound coming and going and in profile.   And so to the final award of Best in Show, in my head I had dogs that I thought could win, but then you never know just how they will show after a long weekend. And so l gave them every chance to show off their qualities.

But sometimes you must not let your heart rule your head. But for me two stood out and it was no easy decision. And so best in show went to the fabulous German Shepherd Carly Di Poggio Del Sole, I was told afterwards his first show in Malta, having been imported from Italy. I can only imagine how even better he would be outside in a large ring.

But he was pushed all the way by the beautiful Whippet Ch.Frontrunners The Look. For me it was just like looking at a beautiful painting, it was such a hard decision, and it would not surprise me if these two changed places many times.   And can l say a huge thank you to Frank Borg and his great team for a wonderful time in Malta. The atmosphere at the show was so good you have a great crowd and long may it last. Thank you all again.

Best Veteran In Show was the Siberian Husky. Ch. Banelord Rag doll. Best Any Variety Locally Bred was the Siberian Husky, Banelord Heaven Sent. Best Puppy In Show: Beagle Portside Kennels Pip.
